Bahraini athletics star Winifred Yavi was included in the list of elite athletes for the year 2022 for the Military Sports Council Award (CISM), which is allocated to the best male or female athlete in recognition of the athletes’ contributions and excellence over the course of a year.
The Military Sports Council takes into account the athlete’s achievements along with eligibility, fair play, discipline, respect for rules and regulations, conduct and many other aspects.
Our champion Winfred Yavi was chosen from the preliminary elite list due to her wonderful season last year, after winning first place and the gold medal in women’s cross-country race at the World Military Cross Country Championship in Portugal, besides, she won the gold medal in the team competition, and achieving another gold medal in the mixed relay in the same championships.
According to the assessment of the Military Sports Council, Winfred Yavi showed great attachment to her national shirt, raised her country’s flag high, and was an example of dedication, giving, and commitment, and embodied the Council’s values of friendship, respect, discipline, and sacrifice.
