Our men’s and women’s national athletics teams recorded a new achievement after holding second place in the overall medal table at the 4th West Asian Championship that was ended recently in the Doha, Qatari. There were 12 countries participated, where our both sex champs won 13 colorful medals, including 9 golds, two silvers, and two bronzes.
The gold medals were achieved by Dawit Fikadu in 10000m in 29:08:75m, and the same athlete won gold in men’s 5000m in 13:51:45m, and Abdelrahman Mahmoud in the Shot put competition 65.20m to set a new record in this competition at the West Asian Championship.
Our talented athlete Fatima Mubarak won gold in women’s long jump competition 5.89m to achieve a new record in this category, and Marta Hirpato won gold in the women’s 800m 2:07:09m, and she also won gold in the women’s 1500m 4 :24:82m, and Noora Jasim acquired gold in shot put 15.5m, and Bontu Edao gained gold in women’s 10000m 34:43:84m, and the same champ won gold also in women’s 5000m 16:01:80m and setting a new record.
Meanwhile, Tigest Mekonen won silver in 800m 2:08:40m, and silver one in women’s 1500m 4:26:45m. Abdul Ghani Muhammad won bronze in men’s 5000m 14:16:83m, and he likewise won bronze in the men’s 10000m in 30:34:74m.
His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Abdul Latif Fahd bin Jalal extended his warmest congratulations and blessings on this occasion to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him.
Bin Jalal also extended his sincere congratulations and congratulations to His Highness Shaikh Naser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and Chairman of the Olympic Committee.
He stressed that this new achievement reflects the extent of the care enjoyed by the sports movement in general and athletics in particular from the wise leadership, may God protect and preserve them, besides, the interest of His Highness Shaikh Naser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and the support of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and their Highnesses’ keenness to provide all forms of care for the both gender champions.
He added that “We are pleased with the positive results achieved by our champs in the West Asian Championship for men and women, as it fulfilled our aim of achieving distinguished triumphs and raising the flag of our country high. It also founded significant and ideal way to be ready for the upcoming competitions and to learn about the extent of the enthusiasm of our runners for the most important upcoming competitions, most notably the Asian Games that will be held in Hangzhou, China in 2023.
Bin Jalal praised the honorable levels carried out by the male and female athletes in the West Asian Championship to reflect the bright image of Bahraini athletics and its distinguished capabilities, stressing that the association achieved the goal stand behind this participation and will perform a comprehensive technical evaluation process during the next stage that goes in line with the association’s plans, programs and objectives, wishing the athletes more luck and success.
